Mulling over a move to Gran Canaria? In the third of an increasingly popular series, we meet natives and those who have gone local like us. The latest derrieres to take their place on our hotseats belong to Daniel Azzoli and Patrick Galifi.
The Gran Canaria Local family have been resident on Gran Canaria since 2004. Following their relocation, they’ve met many other islanders both new and rather more established. Including the likes of Daniel Azzoli and Patrick Galifi.
1. ¡Hola, Daniel and Patrick! Where are you based on Gran Canaria and what attracted you to this particular area?
We live in the south of the island, in Playa del Inglés. The main factor was that we wanted a place close to where we work. A commute just didn’t appeal.
2. What tips would you give people relocating to the island?
Rent before you buy. You’ll need some time to acclimatize to your new surroundings. So, we advise newcomers to wait a while before purchasing to get a better feel of the area.
3. If you were to liken Gran Canaria to a cocktail, which one would you compare it to and why?
A mango one. As this cocktail’s as soft as the sand on Gran Canaria’s beaches and the colour of the sun which perches above the island.
4. What are some of your favourite island hobbies?
Our favourite hobbies on Gran Canaria are discovering the parallels between the island and the likes of Africa, Brazil, Brittany, Canada, Cuba, Peru, and Provence in terms of landscape. We love exploring Gran Canaria’s vineyards where grapes ripen during the island’s eternal spring, the wild beaches, the natural swimming pools, and the colonial architecture of the capital’s Vegueta. Something else we enjoy doing is hiking Gran Canaria’s great outdoors. We could go on but this answer would turn into a book
5. Finally, Daniel and Patrick, what do you do workwise on Gran Canaria?
We run Peppermint, one of Gran Canaria’s new generation of cocktail bars. You’ll find us in the legendary Yumbo. Our quality cocktails ensure our customers enjoy an unforgettable night out. If you have any questions about the island, we’re happy to answer them.
Are you Gran Canaria born and bred? Or have you gone native on the island like us? If so and you’d like to take part in this series, drop us a line.
