Want to avoid waiting for a bus or standing in line for a taxi on a Gran Canaria holiday? Renting a car is your best option. Which is where our Gran Canaria car hire guide will come in extremely handy.

Chances are you’re flying into Gran Canaria. Four wheels would be handy, wouldn’t they? Check out our comprehensive guide to Gran Canaria car hire which recommends car rental companies based in Gran Canaria airport and beyond.

1. Car Hire in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

In the capital Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, you’ll find some familiar names on the car-hire front. Like Hertz. Their El Sebadal branch is in Calle Dr. Juan Domínguez Pérez close to the port which would be useful for visitors who arrive by ferry.

Then there are some more native car rental firms. Such as Autos Tirma Canarias with a Las Canteras base courtesy of their Calle Joaquín Costa address. They offer special discounts to Erasmus students enrolled at the city’s university.

Fellow locals Gest Car Rent, S.L. have been operating in the Canary Islands since 1996. Their rental rates start low with three-door Citreon Saxos and go all the way up to the more expensive five-door models including the Mercedes Vito. Find them at Calle José Franchy Roca, close to Parque Santa Catalina.

One of the most well-known car-hire firms in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria are TopCar. Canary Islands Car can be found in Gran Canaria Airport. Their wide-ranging fleet includes Audi, Toyota, Fiats, and many other household names.

Another firm in the capital is Autos Canarias with a main office in Calle Tenerife and a second in Alfredo L. Jones, both in the Las Canteras area.  Nearby in Calle Sagasta, Omega Rent a Car also hire out motorbikes.  Elsewhere in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Calle Viriato’s Orlando Rent a Car don’t penalize young drivers and allow you to pay for your rental charges on collection of vehicle.

Autos Sansu in Calle Luis Morote offer a personalized service with low-price two-doors amongst their range of models. Ruiz de Alda’s Xtravans, meanwhile, offers drivers unlimited kilometres on their travels around the island. Beachside Autos Moreno, another car-hire firm on Sagasta, turned 30 in 2017; making them one of the more established car-rental firms in the capital.

As you can probably tell from their name, Calle León y Castillo’s CarCanaria AutoViermietung target the German market. Another option to arrive on Gran Canaria is via Agaete‘s Puerto de las Nieves. CICAR have an office there, catering for ferry passengers.

2. Car Hire in Gran Canaria south: Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas, Puerto Rico, and San Agustín

In San Agustín, family-run Rocamar open every day of the week. Whilst in Playa del Inglés, Seaside Sandy Beach serves as one of TopCar rental locations on the Canary Islands (they’re also known as Autoreisen). Just around the corner, there’s a branch of Europcar.

Above Maspalomas, you’ll find Sonnenland which is part residential area and part resort. IslaCar have their main office in the CC Sonneland. Although they will deliver vehicles to Gran Canaria airport in the east of the island free of charge.

Further west, Puerto Rico‘s Avis is located on Calle El Hierro. This resort is also home to the no-deposit-required Inauto Car Hire on Avenida de Mogán. And one of four branches on the island, of Aviacar; the others being in the airport, Meloneras, and Playa del Inglés.

Also in Puerto Rico, Arisal Rent a Car have a branch in Avenida de Cornisa. In Arguineguín, Rent a Car George is run by George Grabietz who speaks English, German, Polish, and Spanish. Most of his fleet of 4-7 seat passenger cars are Volkswagens.

3. Car Hire in Gran Canaria Airport

Telde is where you’ll find Gran Canaria airport and a selection of rental car firms. Such as CICAR, Goldcar, InterRent,  Sixt Rent a Car, and TopCar. Whilst Orlando Rent a Car offer a free shuttle service from LPA to their Arinaga office.

4. Rent a Car Gran Canaria: west, centre, and a top tip

The west and centre of the island are the most isolated parts of Gran Canaria. So, they are places which are ideal for road trips. You’d drive to the likes of Artenara, La Aldea de San Nicolás, and Tejeda in your rental car rather than pick up a holiday auto there.

As you can see, this is another comprehensively-researched guide. But perhaps you haven’t got the time or, indeed, inclination to click on every link. There is a solution: to use an online price-comparision service which searches the deals offered by the leading rental-car suppliers on Gran Canaria.

We recommend EasyTerra as their user-friendly site allows you to search in a number of different currencies and languages. Bear in mind, however, that their target market is holidaymakers flying into Gran Canaria. Fortunately, the majority of tourists choose this method of entry which probably means you will do so too.
